Welcome to my Quarter Acre.

Anvil Autoflower

Sonoma Sungrown is the gardening and hash making adventures of one guy.

Armed with a creative mind and an outsized love of horticulture, mother nature, and the cannabis plant, I garden with natural practices for both food and medicine.

I planted my first bean in 2008, and 16 years later, I'm still learning, loving and appreciating this plant for its power and breathtaking beauty.

I have long had aspirations of being a professional grower, but I'm fortunate to have a day job that affords me the freedom to develop my skills and craft on my quarter acre homestead, all while making a living and keeping the bills paid.

As of now, every bit of product I produce at my house is either consumed by me or given, legally, to friends. I don't sell any of it.

I do this all for the love.

My hope for this website is to support the home grower community through sharing my processes and techniques.

ABOUT ME

Over the years, I've acquired a fair bit of knowledge when it comes to this plant.

  • Organic Gardening

I make my own fertilizers and inputs using KNF and JADAM techniques, with most of the source materials coming from my own quarter-acre property. There's nothing more satisfying than closing the loop!

  • Hashmaking

Over the past several years, I've been falling down the rabbit hole that is hash making. After years of learning from friends, forums and online tuturial, I had the opportunity to learn by watching some of the best in the business. Now I can confidently say that I craft fire in my garage.

  • At-Home Processing

I experiment with different accessible-at-home processing techniques to achieve various consistencies of rosin. From jams and sauces, to cold cure and carts, I've been able to make retail-quality products on a homespun budget.

Autoflowers

I grew my first Lowryder and another cultivar, Fast Blast, in 2008, and even though the terps kinda sucked, I couldn't help but be intrigued by ruderalis. After years of trial and error, first indoors and now outside on the Quarter Acre, I've learned a thing or two about the quirks of the autoflowering gene, and the breeders that have taken autoflowers to the delicious realm they now occupy.

Because of my more recent focus of hashmaking, I have proritized washability in my cultivar/seed selection process over the past several years. I am happy to report that there are absolutely consistent washers out there, you just have to know where to find them.

As an outdoor backyard gardener, autos have enabled me to have more flavors in my freezer without violating my California-mandated plant count.

This is how I roll on the Quarter Acre

  • No chemicals

I have no interest in eating glyphosate, and I certainly have no interest in breathing it, either. Everything going into my cannabis is organic, and chances are it probably came from the Quarter Acre.

  • Look around

I try to take advantage of the resourses around me. I choose to not rely on commercial agriculture for my cannabis or my diet (as much as possible).

  • Nothing beats the sun

It's been proven that when it comes to terps, nothing beats living soil and the huge ball of flaming gas under which cannabis evolved. Go figure.

  • No bottles

No fertilizer from bottles, and only occasionally will I use any sort of a product out of a package. Dr. Zyme's is a notable exception, as I do use that on occasion.
